Rick Barton has watched Apponaug Four Corners from the front steps of his Post Road apartment throughout the last two years of work on the $29.9 million Apponaug Circulator Project, and he’s been enjoying himself, he says, with only a few complaints.
Single lane closures at Apponaug Village roundabouts, required to allow stamped concrete crosswalks to cure, have not been popular with many motorists, and Mayor Scott Avedisian is asking for patience as the restrictions are expected to last until May 31.
With Post Road East opened to two way traffic Wednesday, the RIDOT is turning to plans to do the same for Veterans Memorial Drive and Veterans Memorial Drive Extension Nov. 22, re-routing the main flow of traffic around Apponaug instead of directly through.

The Apponaug Circulator Project’s latest roundabout at Centerville, Toll Gate, Gilbane Street opened Wednesday, handling traffic from four directions without the aid of signals.
