RIDOT Opening Westbound Veterans Memorial Drive Extension Next Week

WARWICK, RI – RIDOT is scheduled to open the westbound section of the Veterans Memorial Drive Extension, the new roadway segment in Apponaug, during the week of Oct. 11, the first step in establishing two-way traffic through the Apponaug Circulator project this fall.

“This will involve the conversion of Greenwich Avenue to two-way traffic, the closure of a portion of Centerville Road, and several other major changes to the existing traffic patterns. Stay tuned for further details,” the transportation agency wrote in an update Sept. 29. The actual opening date is weather dependent.

RIDOT “strongly advised” motorists to follow posted speed limits and signs while traveling through the new traffic patterns.
In the meantime, there are continuing Apponaug Circulator developments to mind:
Work Anticipated for Oct. 03 – Oct. 08, 2016
Post Road – West Shore Road to Veterans Memorial Drive: 

* Construction and placement of Integrally Colored Stamped Concrete will continue at West Shore Roundabout.

Two Lanes will be closed and Two lanes will be open. Monday – Friday, 7 am-3:30 pm.
* (Night-Work) Pavement removal and reconstruction of existing roadway will occur on Post Rd, between Veterans Memorial Drive and Winslow Ave.

Work will take place Sunday thru Thursday, 8:00 pm-6:00 am. One Lane, alternating traffic, will be used during working hours.

Veterans Memorial Drive – Post Road to Greenwich Avenue:
* Continue installation of concrete & asphalt sidewalks & driveways
* Installation of Integrally Colored Stamped Concrete will continue
* Installation of new highway lighting will continue
* Construction of new stone wall within the Roundabout at Greenwich will continue

Work will take place Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Two Westbound travel lanes will remain open to traffic on Veterans Memorial Drive. Two Eastbound travel lanes, under construction, will remain closed until two way traffic is established.

Centerville Road – Warwick Executive Park to Tollgate Road:
* Installation of new highway lighting will continue
* Landscape work will take place behind sidewalks
* Continue work on concrete sidewalks and driveways

Above work to take place, Monday thru Friday, 6:00 am- 3:30 pm. Current Travel lanes will remain open with lane shifts.

Veterans Memorial Drive Extension (Former Mill Site):
* Place hot mix asphalt
* Landscape work will continue
* Installation of highway lighting system will continue
* Placement of stamped concrete divider island will continue

Work at former mill site will have no impacts to traffic.

Post Road (Village) – Centerville Road to West Shore Road:

* Verizon is scheduled to continue underground cable splicing in the telephone manhole, at Apponaug Four Corners.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.  One Lane on Post Rd, Northbound, will be closed.  One lane Northbound will remain open.
Greenwich Avenue – Post Rd to Luther Ave.:
* Placement of Integrally Colored Stamped Concrete will begin at the Truck Apron of the * * * Roundabout and divider islands
* Construction of new stone wall in Roundabout will continue
* Placement of hot mix asphalt will occur
Work will take place, Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm within the closed portion of the roadway. The Two current travel lanes will remain open.
