Warwick, RI — Officer Jacob Elderkin found a West Warwick man with an outstanding warrant and a gram of heroin while patrolling the Motel 6 building on Jefferson Boulevard Oct. 31, and arrested him.

Elderkin was patrolling around the Motel 6 building at 6:34 p.m. when he spotted a 1991 Toyota Corolla registered to a man wanted on a warrant, and called in Officer John Curley for support to check the motel for man, Joseph Mrozewicz, 63, of 27 River St., West Warwick, Elderkin said.

Mrozewicz wasn’t in the motel, but he was in his car when the officers returned to the lot. He was also with a woman, according to the officer’s report.

Elderkin arrested Mrozewicz and placed him in the officer’s crusier.

The officer searched the woman, finding a bag with heroin residue in it. Elderkin knew this because the woman said it had recently contained heroin, according to the officer’s report.

Elderkin searched Mrozewicz’s car, finding a pouch under the dashboard, then spoke with the passenger again. She continued her helpful streak by informing him that Mrozewicz kept heroin in the pouch under the car’s dash.

Elderkin checked the pouch, finding a gram of heroin. Mrozewicz admitted to knowingly possessing the drug, according to the report.

Elderkin charged Mrozewicz with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, a felony.
