WARWICK, RI — Thursday will be the first in-person Veterans Day observed since the COVID-19 pandemic, and will also honor Cold War veterans with a commemorative medallion.
Mayor Frank Picozzi, and Rep. Camille Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21), will unveil a medallion to honor veterans of the Cold War at Warwick Veterans Memorial Middle School at 10 a.m., according to Mayor Frank Picozzi’s office.
The Warwick Fire and Police Department’s Honor Guard will lead a procession, and posting of the colors. Reverend Robert L. Marciano will give the benediction, followed by remarks from a Cold War Veteran, Mayor Picozzi, and Representative Vella-Wilkinson.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Warwick’s last Veterans Day was virtual as the nation fought to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic without vaccines. That observance was live-streamed on former Gov. Gina Raimondo’s Facebook page and Capitol TV, with a precautionary nod to the resurging COVID-19 pandemic, which had also necessitated a host of tightened restrictions on public and private gatherings and business and a call urging Rhode Islanders to don masks in the presence of anyone they don’t share their home with.
The last in-person Veterans Day ceremony in the city was in 2019.
