Picozzi: City Plans New Playground Improvements

[CREDIT: WarwickPost.com] Mayor Frank Picozzi speaks about Apponaug Playground upgrades and continuing playground improvements.

WARWICK, RI — Apponaug Playground’s $789,000 facelift has proved popular with parents and kids, a point driven home by the crowd playing at the site last month when Mayor Frank Picozzi and other city officials gathered for a ribbon cutting Oct. 17.

The improvements include new equipment, accessible surfacing, improved loop paths from the City Hall lots, accessible parking, new stair handrails, bleachers, benches, tables, shade trees, interpretive signage, Little League safety netting to keep baseballs in the adjacent ball field, and a new basketball court. Picozzi took some time after the ribbon cutting to point out details of the new playground and talk about the city’s plans to catch up with Warwick Schools’ recent work on improving its playgrounds, which Warwick Post reported on in 2020.
