WARWICK, RI — A man wanted in Massachusetts for armed robbery drew one Warwick officer’s attention after he and a friend stood in the middle of Jefferson Boulevard, forcing the officer to stop near Motel 6 March 28 at 3:41 a.m.
“It should be noted where the male and female stopped in the roadway on Jefferson Boulevard is a highly traveled area due to the direct proximity to the Rte. 95 exit and on ramps,” Officer Connor Bemis wrote in his report.
Bemis watched the pair walk very slowly across the street to the parking lot of Motel 6, 20 Jefferson Boulevard, and decided to warn them about the perils of standing in the middle of the busy road. As he spoke with them, he identified both, including the man, Benjamin Rucker, 27, of 271 Cowden St., Central Falls, RI. Both were apologetic and cooperative, according to the officer’s report.
A check with dispatch revealed Rucker was wanted by the Cambridge, MA Police Department for armed robbery. Two officers joined Bemis at the parking lot, and he arrested Rucker without incident.
Bemis transported Rucker to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where he was processed and transferred to Third District Court on a charge of Fugitive from Justice.
