WPD Seeks Witnesses to SUV Striking Teen

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are asking the public’s help in their investigation of an SUV striking a 16-year-old girl as she crossed Buttonwoods Avenue Wednesday at 6:42 a.m.

The driver remained at the scene, and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the incident.  The girl is conscious and being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, police report.

That morning, Warwick Police were called to the area of 198 Buttonwoods Ave. for the report of pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.  Officers found the girl had been struck by a small SUV which had been traveling south on Buttonwoods Avenue, Warwick Police announced.

The driver remained at the scene, and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the incident.  The girl is conscious and being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital,

The girl was initially reported to be unconscious and had an obvious head injury. She was transported by ambulance to Hasbro Children’s hospital, where she is conscious and undergoing treatment. The investigation has revealed that the girl was crossing Buttonwoods Avenue from the east side of Buttonwoods to the west side in order to make it to her school bus stop in the Work out World parking lot.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Warwick Police Traffic Unit at 401-468-4200.
