Warwick, RI – When more than 125 Greenwood Credit Union customers lost a combined $65,000 to thieves with ATM skimming devices in March, Warwick Police Detectives spent a month analyzing video and financial records, identifying Moises Morales Cano, 30, from Astoria, NY. as their suspect.
According to a release distributed to media, Warwick Police arrested Cano Saturday, after deducing that he intended to return to RI for new ATM skimming attempts this weekend and staking out a local hotel Cano had stayed at before.
Warwick Police arrested Cano at 11 a.m. Saturday at the hotel without incident, according to the release. He was transported to the Warwick Police Headquarters at 99 Veterans Memorial Highway, where he’ll be held pending arraignment on three felony counts of Access to a Computer for Fraudulent Purposes.
Police also arrested Carlos Cineros, 52, also from New York. According to Warwick Police, Cineros is believed to be Cano’s accomplice in the ATM skimming. Charges relating to ATM skimming are pending against both subjects in other Rhode Island jurisdictions.
Police report their investigation into the pair’s ATM skimming activity is ongoing, including their possible involvement in similar incidents along the east coast.
