WPD Log: Shoplifters Arrested, Car, Canoe Reported Stolen

Warwick, RI – The following arrests and incidents between Oct. 27 and Nov. 9 were collected from publicly available records at the Warwick Police Department:

Man  Leaves JC Penny without paying for jacket, wearing TSA Uniform

On Oct. 27 at 12:38 p.m. Detective Edmund Pierce was called to JC Penny at the Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifter.

On the scene, Pierce spoke with the store’s loss prevention officer, who said he had seen a man, later identified as Albert Chace, 25, of 28 Pinehurst Ave., Providence, Apt. 1, enter the men’s winter coat section of the store and try on a coat. Chace then left the store without making an attempt to pay for the jacket, according to Pierce’s report.

Two loss prevention officers caught up with and confronted Chace, who returned with them to the store, where he admitted to stealing the $140 jacket and gave it back.

Pierce arrested Chace, who was wearing a TSA uniform. Chace explained he was in the process of applying to the TSA and is not yet a full agent.

Chase was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, where he was processed and released with a court date of Nov. 17, where he pled no contest to the charge.

Car for sale on North St. reported stolen

 On Nov. 5 at about 11:30 a.m., Officer Darren Parillo was called to a North Street address for a report of a stolen black 1996 2-door Honda Civic Coupe worth $2,700.

When he arrived, Parillo spoke with the car’s owner, a 19-year-old who said he’d parked it in the driveway of his home at 11 p.m. with hand-written “For Sale” signs in the window and placed at the front and rear carpet bumpers Nov. 4, and was alerted by his mother this morning that it was missing at about 6 a.m., according to Parillo’s report.

The man said numerous people had come to look at the car, including some from Connecticut. He provided Parillo with their phone numbers.

Canoe reported stolen on Post Road

On Nov. 5 at about 4:30 p.m., Officer James Wenneman was called to a Post Road residence for a report of a stolen canoe.

When he arrived, Wenneman spoke with the owner of the canoe, who said she had last seen the canoe, a red fiberglass 17-foot Old Town worth $150, on her property near the Pawtuxet River the previous day, according to Wenneman’s report.

She said she noticed it was missing at about 8:30 Nov. 5.  She said she also discovered a 3 foot, 5 inch tall metal garden sculpture of a white egret with a yellow beak and a fish in its mouth, worth about $75 had been stolen.
