WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police have identified the 18-year-old woman stabbed by Jacob Gallant, 41, of Westport, MA while working at the 1201 Warwick Ave. Rite-Aid March 5, as well as two men the department is crediting with saving her life, all three Warwick residents.

In a statement released to media Tuesday morning, Warwick Police Maj. Brad Connor said Gallant entered the store at 3 p.m. and began attacking Alyssa Garcia, 18, of Warwick, with a large knife, an apparent random act.

Connor Devine, 19 of Warwick one of Garcia’s fellow employees, and Stanley Bastien, 51, of Warwick, restrained Gallant until Warwick officers arrived and arrested him, according to Connor.

Garcia remains at Rhode Island Hospital where she continues to recover from her injuries.

Gallant is due back in court March 20, at the Kent County Court House.
