WPD Charges Man with DUI in Crash Injuring Two Children Sunday

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police have charged a 34-year-old East Providence man with DUI after he crashed his car head-on into another vehicle on Warwick Avenue at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, sending an 8-year-old and a two-year old child to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, one of them with serious injuries.

Police report the man was driving south when his car crossed over the double yellow line and struck a northbound vehicle near 982 Warwick Ave.

Three adults were also transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the two-car crash. Police did not report which of the two children suffered serious injuries.

Police identified the driver of the southbound vehicle as Justin Preston, 34, of East Providence. Police have charged Preston with Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Operating on a Suspended License.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 401-468-4343, and ask for either Captain Rathbun or Sgt. John Kelly.
