WPD Investigates Fatal Warwick Avenue Crash, Charges Driver With DUI

Editor’s note: This article and the WPD originally identified the deceased victim as an elderly Warwick man. Warwick police have since updated that information to note the victim was in fact an elderly Cranston man.  

UPDATE – 2:38 p.m. : Warwick Police have identified the man killed in Sunday night’s three-car collision as Daniel McCarthy, 82, of Cranston.

Megan White, 26, of Blake Street, Warwick, RI, was arraigned in 3rd Division District Court on one count of DUI Death resulting in the death of McCarthy.
Bail for Ms. White has been set at $15,000 surety bail with her next court appearance to be scheduled at a later date by the RI Attorney General’s Office.

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are investigating a late night three-car collision Sunday that killed a 82-year-old Cranston man and have charged a 26-year-old Warwick woman in the fatal Warwick Avenue crash.

Police report they have charged Megan White, 26, of Warwick with Driving Under the Influence, Death Resulting after the fatal crash 10 p.m. at 2055 Warwick Avenue.

According to police, White’s southbound vehicle struck a vehicle entering onto Warwick Avenue from Betsey Williams Drive. White’s car hit the second car broadside, sending both vehicles into a third car.

One of the vehicles’ operators, a 82-year-old-Cranston man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police report.

Warwick Police ask any person with information related to the accident to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401)468-4343 and ask for either Captain Rathbun or Sgt. John Kelly.
