WARWICK, RI — On the heels of arresting a pair of grandparent scammers, Warwick Police hope to curb a new Citizens Bank scam in which thieves clone the bank’s phone number to call asking for sensitive information or money.

Warwick Police report a recent uptick in fraudsters calling and pretending to be from Citizen’s Bank. They clone the bank’s phone number so it will come up as Citizen’s Bank on your caller ID, and the phone number will match the actual branch’s phone number.

“Please be advised that banks or legitimate companies will not ask you to purchase gift cards or transfer money into Crypto Currency for payments or to protect your funds. If you feel something is suspicious, please contact the bank/company yourself at the numbers listed on their website or credit card. Please make sure your elderly family members are aware of this.”
