WARWICK — Officer Thomas Duncan responded to Macy’s at the Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, April 21 at 6:16 p.m. for a report of a shoplifter who had stolen $327 in clothing from the store before being stopped by the store’s security personnel, and arrested the woman.
Duncan spoke with the loss prevention manager at the store, who told him that while on the sales floor, she spotted a woman, later identified as Clara Cordiero, 64 of 420 Quequechan St., Apt. 221, Fall River, MA, pick up a pair of Michael Kors sandals, remove the price stickers and hide them in her jacket draped over her arm.
Cordiero left the store and was shortly intercepted by the loss prevention officer, and escorted to the store’s office, where the woman asked Cordiero to hand over all the items she’d stolen from the store. Cordiero responded by removing three pairs of pants, which totaled $248.50 in value. All of the pants had been damaged from having security tags ripped off of them.
The store manager told Duncan the company wished to press charges, and seek restitution for the cost of the damaged pants.
Duncan arrested Cordiero and transported her to Warwick Police headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where she was processed and charged with a count of shoplifting, for which she was scheduled for a May 22 appearance in Third District Court.
