WARWICK, RI — The City’s first Food Truck Night was a success Thursday night, drawing about 1,000 people to City Hall’s front lawn and side lot, where 11 food trucks served fare to a festive crowd to the sounds of Nancy Paolino and the Black Tie Band.
Karen Jedson, Director of Warwick’s Tourism Department, said the event was the start of an effort to bring more food trucks into the city, a kind of test of the popularity of the concept.
Among the food trucks serving hungry attendees were Warwick based Open Season Catering, Seaside Johnny’s, Presto Strango Coffee, and Like No Udder vegan ice cream.
Eric Weiner, the owner of Foodtrucksin.com, which provides an online, real-time tracking of food trucks nation-wide, organized the event. He said Mayor Scott Avedisian attended his event, Food Truck Friday, at Roger William’s Park recently and invited him to organize a similar event at City Hall.
“The city and the Mayor have been super supportive,” Weiner said. He said they’ll keep holding the events here in the city, “As long as the weather cooperates and the people keep showing up.”
For the moment, the second Warwick Food Truck Night is scheduled for Sept. 8, again at City Hall.
