WARWICK, RI —Bishop Hendricken High School completed another impressive year in football with a 35-7 win over North Kingstown in the Division 1 state championship during this week’s action in Warwick varsity sports, as reported by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.

The Hawks brought a nine-game win streak into the D-1 Super Bowl on Nov. 20, their 15th consecutive finals appearance, after squeaking out a 21-20 overtime win against Central on Nov. 10.

Senior RBs Oscar Weah Jr. and  Ronjai Francis racked up a combined 296 yards and four TDs for the Hawks, including two late scores that ensured the win over the Skippers, who earned their berth to the Super Bowl by trouncing LaSalle Academy 45-12 in the semifinal round.

Francis notched his first touchdown early in the second quarter, but the Skippers replied with a fumble recovery with 2:21 to go before halftime and followed up with a 71-yard drive to tie the score.

Weah (21 carries for 181 yards) scored again for the Hawks to make the score 14-7 going into halftime.

After the third quarter ended with no change to the score, Hendricken made their own fumble recovery early in the fourth quarter and Francis converted the turnover into six points. Weah later picked off a Skipper pass and rushed for another Hawk TD and a 28-7 advantage.

Sophomore Jeremy Seidi snagged an interception to stop a North Kingstown drive in the final minute of the contest to close out the game.

Francis and senior DE Rushaune Vilane (4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery)  earned MVP honors  in the contest, which marks Hendricken’s 18th state football championship.
