WARWICK, RI — Mayor Frank Picozzi, state lawmakers, Warwick City Councillors, Warwick Police and Warwick Fire members gathered at Warwick City Hall Friday to observe Veterans Day with a brief proclamation.
Picozzi and Rep. Camille Vella Wilkinson, (D-Dist 21) led the ceremony, with included police and fire honor guards, Warwick City Council President Steve McAllister, DAV Chapter 9, Council members Bill Foley and Jim McElroy, WPD Col. Brad Connors, WFD Chief Peter McMasters, Rep. Joe Solomon (D-Dist. 22), Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30) and Matt LaMountain (D-Dist. 31).
Veterans Day in Warwick is typically a small official observance, often with a new element of veterans service honored. Last year, during the first in-person Veterans Day observed since the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Frank Picozzi, and Rep. Camille Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21), joined other city and state officials to unveil a placeholder version of a cast aluminum medallion for the memorial stone honoring veterans of the Cold War in front of Warwick Veterans Memorial Middle School. The medallion is a replica of the Cold War medal awarded by Congress to members of the armed services serving during the Cold War.
