Tour de Force Memorial Riders Roll Down Post Road

Warwick, RI – About 390 bicyclists from several New England police departments in the Sept. 11 memorial Tour de Force bicycle ride rolled down Post Road Thursday at about 4:30 p.m., stopping at the Sheraton Inn for the first leg of their tour.

Warwick Police blocked off traffic at the intersection of Airport Road and Post Road for about 15 minutes to allow the group to make their way to the hotel.  The mass of 390 riders traveled from the Boston Marathon starting line in Hopkinton, MA to Warwick for an evening of rest before continuing to Ground Zero in New York, NY.

They were escorted in from Rte. 152 by Warwick, Providence, Bristol, MIT, Pawtucket and Seekonk officers, said Warwick Sgt. Earl Read.

The ride combined Tour de Force riders with 150 Sean’s Ride members, riding in honor of Sean Collier, the MIT officer who was shot and killed by the Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as police worked to track them down in 2013.

In the morning Friday, about 8 a.m., the group will continue their ride to Ground Zero in New York City.
