COVENTRY, RI — Warwick firefighters and East Greenwich firefighters responded to help RI State Police clear a Ford F-650 mulch truck rollover that spread landscaping material across Rte. 95 south at Exit 21 for Coventry – West Warwick Thursday at 3:40 p.m.
According to RI State Police Capt. Jeffrey L’heureux, the rollover left the driver and one passenger with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, for which they were transported to a local hospital.
L’heureux said the driver lost control of the truck during a lane change, causing the rollover and spilling about six yards of mulch across the highway. The rollover blocked one lane on Rte. 95 South for about two hours.
“The tow was easy. It was picking up the wood chips,” L’heureux said about the amount of time it took to clear the scene.
Traffic was also inexplicably backed up on the northbound end of the highway near as traffic approached line of sight of the mulch truck rollover at exit 21, backing up to the New London Turnpike overpass. Some traffic detoured onto area back roads to circumnavigate the backups caused by the crash.
“This afternoon EGFD Engines 1, 2, and Rescue 1, along with Warwick Firefighters, were dispatched to 95 South for a reported rollover. Two patients were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” East Greenwich Firefighters Association IAFF L 3328 posted to their Facebook account, along with photos from the scene.
