WARWICK, R.I. — Classes were disrupted today as 87 Warwick School teachers, including 33 at Warwick Veterans Middle School, called out sick, the cause of which was a point of disagreement between Superintendent Phil Thornton and Warwick Teachers Union Darleen Netcoh, representing opposing sides in a drawn-out labor dispute.
In-home tutoring service Tutor Doctor RI honored “World Teachers Day” Oct. 8 by asking people in Warwick to vote for their favorite school to win drinks and snacks for the staff refrigerator during their “Stock the Fridge” event, and Warwick Veterans Middle School won the prize.
Construction upgrading Warwick Veterans Middle School and Pilgrim High School, in progress since June, continued Tuesday afternoon as Mayor Scott Avedisian, Superintendent Philip Thornton, and School Committee Chairwoman Bethany Furtado toured the buildings, inspecting the work that will prepare the new middle school and expand the high school to accommodate former Warwick Vets High Schoolers.
