State Police: Four Thanksgiving weekend DUI arrests

RI Troopers responded to 1,093 calls for service over theThanksgiving holiday (from 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, through midnightMonday, Nov. 26), including 106 traffic crashes – none resulting in death or serious injury.

Four people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during this period, one of them a Warwick resident. “Rhode Islanders clearly heard and heeded the warnings not to drink and drive, which helped keep our roadways safe,” Colonel Assumpico, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, said.

“Our troopers will remain vigilant in enforcing all motor vehicle laws, especially when it comes to keeping impaired drivers off the roads during the upcoming holidays.”

Among the arrests that weekend were:

DUI in Pawtucket  – Jason Parks, 39, of 65 Ingalls St., Warwick, was arrested at approximately 1:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 after a motor vehicle stop on I-95 in Pawtucket. He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, B.A.C of .10-.15 (Phase I: .113 / Phase II: .118). He was also cited for lane violations.

Erratic driver, DUI in Johnston Albert Danti, 30, of 9 Maple Ave, Johnston, was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 after troopers spotted him allegedly speeding and operating erratically on I-295 and Route 6 in Johnston, where he was stopped.

Danti was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, B.A.C. unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He also was cited for speeding; laned roadway violations; failure to maintain reasonable and prudent speeds; interior lights to be operated during a police stop; no seatbelt – operator; and care in starting from stop.

East Greenwich crash James Stilson, 25, of 480 South County Trail, Exeter, was arrested at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday after his car went off the road and crashed on Rte 4, near the ramp to South County Trail, in East Greenwich.

He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, first offense, B.A.C of .10-.15 (Phase I: .132 / Phase II: .136). He also was cited for failure to maintain reasonable and prudent speeds; laned roadway violations; use of breakdown lane for travel; and duty in accident resulting in damage to highway.

Providence traffic stop Julio Tejeda, 39, of 404 Wellington Ave., Cranston, was arrested at approximately 12:50 p.m. Saturday after a motor vehicle stop on Elmwood Avenue in Providence.

He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, B.A.C. unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He also was cited for failure to maintain reasonable and prudent speeds and laned roadway violations.
