Warwick, RI – A Warwick officer arrested a woman on Post Road Aug. 27 at 2:17 a.m., charging her with DUI and obstructing an officer after stopping her for speeding.
Officer Christopher Cote was travelling south on Post Road when a green 1997 Toyota swerved in front of him without a turn signal, then accelerated to 58 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to the officer’s report.
Cote stopped and questioned the driver, eventually identified as Danielle Morin, 28, of 49 Lewis St., North Providence. However, Morin initially handed the officer her sister’s license, claiming that she was borrowing the car.
Unfortunately for Morin, Cote had access to DMV records, including a photo of Morin. When confronted with the truth, Morin confessed her identity. Her license was expired.
Cote noted Morin had bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath, and asked her to perform some sobriety tests, which she failed.
Morin demonstrated a lack of smooth pursuit in her vision, stepped off the line and used her arms for balance during the walk-and-turn, and put her foot down during the one-leg-stand.
Cote arrested Morin, transporting her to Warwick Police Headquarters at 99 Memorial Drive, where she refused to submit to a blood alcohol test.
Cote charged Morin with driving under the influence, blood alcohol unknown, first offense, and was cited for driving without a license, refusing the blood test, lane violation, and speeding. She was also charged with obstructing an officer.
