Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Kent County

The National Weather Service is warning of severe thunderstorms moving through RI. The worst of the weather is expected in the western areas of the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Providence and Kent Counties Sunday afternoon, warning of a severe thunderstorm moving south through the area.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible until 8 p.m. Hail and strong wind gusts are possible, as is heavy rainfall. The storm system is moving south over RI, according to NOAA weather radar. The worst areas of the storm are expected in the western areas of the state.

The National Weather System advises people outside to seek shelter, and stay away from windows. Drivers are advised to be prepared for low visibility and flooded roads.

Northern and Southern RI are named in the warning Bristol, Block Island and Newport.
