See Fall Colors Without Seeing Red on the Road

Fall Foliage is on display in RI and throughout New England this weekend.
Fall Foliage is on display in RI and throughout New England this weekend.

Warwick, RI – Columbus Day weekend, considered one of the busiest road travel holidays of the year, is underway, with gas prices inching within single digits of $2 per gallon and fall foliage on display in our backyard and neighboring states.

Gas prices

This year’s holiday provides a boon to auto travelers with regular unleaded averaging $2.20 per gallon, down one cent from last week, and down 13 cents from last month, according to AAA. As of Oct. 5, the price was nine cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.29.

A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.19 higher at $3.39.

If you’d prefer to avoid the highways, you could always check out the burgeoning fall colors at Warwick City Park at 185 Asylum Road.

According to the Providence/Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Goprovidence.com, Goddard Memorial Park, in Warwick, with its entrance in East Greenwich at 1095 Ives Road, is a good spot for leaf peeping.

The 472-acre park has more than 60 different species of trees, “which makes for some wonderful colors,” according to the site.

Outside the city, you can check out fall foliage drives in Rhode Island, head south for foliage in Connecticut, or venture north for fall foliage drives in Massachusetts.
