Apponaug Project: Sidewalks, River Work, Lane Closures

Warwick,RI – The Apponaug Circulator Project, at least four months ahead of schedule thanks to a fortuitous opportunity to install new water pipes under Post Road early, is beginning to show hints of its ultimate shape at the east and west ends of construction.

We’ve collected a gallery of views of the work from Monday, Oct. 7, along with the latest from the RIDOT about ongoing lane closures and a few notes on where current work on  the project is focused:
Overnight Work

RIDOT will have one lane closed on Route 1 (Post Road) North, from Centerville Road to West Shore Road, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day as the water main is replaced.
One lane will also be closed on Centerville Road and one on Toll Gate Road, Monday-Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day to allow for installation of new drainage and traffic signal systems at the intersection of Diamond Hill and Centerville Roads.

Ongoing Construction

Two lanes will remain closed on Route 1 (Post Road), from West Shore Road to Veterans Memorial Drive, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Crews will continue preparing the areas behind the sidewalks and driveways for walkways, parking lots and landscaping. As the contractor continues to reconstruct the Post Road Extension,  one lane will be closed from Route 1 (Veterans Memorial Drive) South, from Route 1 at the Post Road Extension to Route 5 (Greenwich Ave.), during the same time period.
On Rte. 5 (Greenwich Avenue), from Veterans Memorial Drive to Centerville Road, RIDOT will close one lane for new utility pole installation weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Ongoing activities at the former mill site that do not involve lane closures include the excavation and embankment work, installation of a new drainage system, and the construction of the new Apponaug River upper dam structure.
