WARWICK, RI — Officer Ali Jaafar was posted at the intersection of Post Road and Coronado Road when he heard tires squealing and turned to his left in time to see a black 2012 Mazda crash into another vehicle, then arrested the SUV driver on a DUI charge after an investigation.
Jaafar radioed dispatch of the crash, positioned his cruiser behind the SUV and checked to make sure there were no injuries. Finding none, Jaafar approached the driver of the SUV that had caused the crash.
Jaafar identified the woman as Lisa Napolitano, 48, of 4 High Meadow Ct., Cranston, RI, and noted she had a flushed, red face, bloodshot eyes and extremely mumbled speech. Napolitano’s air bag had activated during the crash, Jaafar reported.
Napolitano told Jaafar she was just returning from Jade Dragon in Warwick and was headed home. She said he had consumed two drinks.
Napolitano failed to follow directions for the vision test, stumbled, fell and failed to follow directions for the walk and turn test, and was unable to balance steadily during the one-leg stand test.
Jaafar arrested Napolitano, and her care was taken away by City Towing. At Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Dr., where she refused to take a breath test.
Jaafar charged Napolitano with DUI, blood alcohol unknown, and cited her for refusing the breath test.  She was released into the custody of a sober adult. Jaafar also cited Napolitano for failing to keep the proper distance between vehicles.
