WARWICK, RI — Officer Brian Holleran was called to Town Fair Tire, 1085 Bald Hill Road for a report of a intoxicated person who had stumbled into the store, and was having difficulty leaving the lot in his Ford Explorer, finding and arresting the driver on a DUI charge.

When he arrived at the address, Holleran spotted the SUV moving through the lot toward the exit, and pulled over the vehicle. As he approached the driver’s side window, Holleran could smell a strong odor of alcohol.

Holleran identified the driver as Andrew Graham, Jr., 57, 90 Youngs Ave., West Warwick. When asked if he’d had anything to drink and if so, what, Graham said he’d had a shot of vodka an hour beforehand, according to the officer’s report. Holleran asked Graham to take some sobriety tests, which Graham agreed to.

However, Graham was unable to count to backwards from 68 to 45, telling the officer he couldn’t do that. Graham also shwoed a lack of smooth pursuit and involuntary movement in his vision, did not maintain heel-toe-cadence during the walk and turn test, and was unable to safely balance on one foot.

Holleran arrested Graham and transported him to Warwick Police headquarters, where he refused to submit to a breath alcohol test. Holleran charged him with DUI first offense, blood alcohol unknown, and cited him for refusing the breath test. The officer transported Holleran to Kent County Memoria Hospital for detox treatment.
