WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police report a moped rider died after losing control of her vehicle on Post Road and striking a stone wall April 6 at about 4:35 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the Cranston woman and the Moped in the road, unresponsive, with bystanders attempting to aid her, according to Warwick Police.

A Warwick EMS crew transported the woman to Kent County Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Identification of the operator is being withheld pending notification of family, Warwick Police report.

An initial investigation indicates the woman was riding the Moped north on Post Road when she tried to negotiate a slight curve in the street. The woman lost control and crossed over the southbound lane of travel and struck the curb.   After striking the curb, she struck a stone wall directly in front of the 3393 Post Road, police report.

The Warwick Police Traffic Unit reconstruction team is investigating this incident. At this time it appears speed/alcohol/distracted driving were not a factor in this accident. Any person with information related to the accident is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 401-468-4344.
