Warwick, RI — Following the close of candidacy filings for the 2014 election cycle, five people are listed in the race for Warwick mayor, according to the Rhode Island Secretary of State Candidates website.

Incumbent Mayor Scott Avedisian will have a primary challenge from fellow Republican Stacia Petri, while two Democratic candidates — past mayoral hopeful John Kirby and Carel Callahan Bainum — and Independent Kevin Eisemann round out the field.

Four of the nine Warwick City Council seats are unopposed this year, meaning President Donna Travis and Councilors Joseph Soloman, Edgar Ladouceur, and Steve Merolla will get another term, barring write-in campaigns.

This year’s ballot also includes three school committee seats, with Eugene Nadeau and Dean Johnson running in District 1, Stephen Pope and Mary Medeiros facing off in District 2, and Bethany Furtado unopposed in District 3.

The 2014 primary is scheduled for Sept. 9, with the general election set for Nov. 4.
