Doherty’s Ale House Owners Prepping Coventry Location

Coventry, RI – Diners and craft beer enthusiasts partial to Doherty’s Ale House on Jefferson Boulevard will be treated to a second location when Tapp’d Restaurant Group opens Doherty’s Ale House Lakeside in Coventry later this month.

Doherty’s Lakeside is taking shape at 446 Tiogue Ave., Coventry, the former home to the recently closed Nino’s banquet hall. The property’s availability didn’t go unnoticed by Tapp’d owners Jack Doherty and Jim Sullivan, said Ed St. Germain, director of Sales and Marketing at Tapp’d.

“Lakefront property is gold,” and Coventry is a great community, St. Germain said.

“This waterfront location really spoke to me when I first saw it and the Ale House concept was a must,” said Doherty, “The menu will read like you would expect in this environment and will feature craft-inspired cuisine with the freshest and most seasonal ingredients available. Doherty’s Ale House is the only restaurant on the shores of beautiful Lake Tiogue and the only restaurant of its kind in Coventry.”

Renovation plans for the building aim to take advantage of the venue with a nautical theme. Tables, chairs and bar will be custom built by Iron Rock Woodworking of Woonsocket using wood reclaimed from Nino’s.

There will be two outside decks overlooking the lake featuring 140 outside seats. The inside will feature a bar area for casual meet-ups and dinner.

Craft liquors be served, as will a craft beer selection to rival that of any bar destination in the state, with 101 taps, as at the Jefferson Boulevard Doherty’s, St. Germain said.

“Hands-down, it’s not even close,” he said.

Specialty soft drinks will grace the menu, including sodas made in front of the customer, St. Germain said. One such soda Doherty’s Lakeside will offer is Wild Maine Blueberry, with the signature ingredients shipped from Maine, while they’re in season.

“It’s going to be fantastic destination restaurant,” St. Germain said.

The new restaurant is expected to open sometime in July, and employ about 140 people. Tapp’d Restaurant Group is hosting a jobs open house July 14 to help them in that effort at the Tiogue Avenue location, from noon till 2 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m.
