Crash Breaks Gas Line, Sam’s Inn Evacuated

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are investigating a Saturday afternoon car crash that damaged four cars and a gas line, prompting officials to order Sam’s Inn evacuated.

The ruptured gas line required the restaurant to be evacuated. The gas to the building was shut off and RI Energy responded to the scene to make the necessary repairs, Warwick Police report.

At about 2:40 p.m.,officers were dispatched to Sam’s Inn, 2227 West Shore Rd., for the report of a motor vehicle accident. 

Officers determined that a 2013 Lexus operated by a 24-year-old woman had struck an occupied vehicle in front of the Shell gas station at 2411 West Shore Road, then an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of the gas station before continuing into the parking lot of Sam’s Inn, where it struck two unoccupied vehicles then struck the exterior refrigeration unit of Sam’s Inn.

The 24-year-old and the driver of the first car were checked at the scene by Warwick Fire/Rescue personnel. No significant injuries were reported. The 24-year-old was transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

There are no charges at this time.  The crash the resulted with Sam’s Inn evacuated is being investigated by the Warwick Police Traffic Division.
