Warwick, RI – Warwick Police got some help from Cranston officers tracking down a hit and run suspect following a crash on Post Road June 6.

When officer James Wenneman responded to the Walmart at 840 Post Road that day at 5:38 p.m., he met with the driver and passengers of a gray 2006 Nissan which had just been rear-ended. The other vehicle involved in the crash, a white 2002 Subaru, did not stop after the crash, continuing north on Post Road, according to Wenneman’s report.

Both the driver and one passenger of the Nissan complained of neck pain, Wenneman reported. He called an ambulance for the pair.

Witnesses provided Warwick Police with the license plate number of the Subaru, Wenneman reported, and they used that information to locate the owner of the car at 176 Arnold Road in Cranston. Warwick Police contacted the Cranston Police Department with this information, telling them the owner of the vehicle involved in the hit and run, Barbara Oliveri, 52 lived in their city. Cranston Police agreed to send officers to the address, and shortly after reported they had Oliveri in custody.

Wenneman responded to the address, and asked Oliveri why she’d left the scene of the accident, according to his report. Oliveri responded that she had only bumped the other car, and that there was no accident. Wenneman explained any contact between two vehicles on the road is considered an accident

Wenneman arrested Oliveri and  transported her to Warwick Police Headquarters at 99 Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, where she was charged with failing in her duty to stop following an accident, and issued a citation for failing to maintain proper control of her vehicle.

She was later released on personal recognizance. She is due back in Third District Court to answer the charges on June 30.
