UPDATE: Warwick Superintendent Phil Thornton said a pellet gun was also found with a note making a bomb threat at Warwick Veterans Middle School Tuesday morning.

“The evacuation and dismissal were called based on the presence of the note, and there was no “hit list” associated with the gun as has been rumored,” Thornton said on the district’s Facebook page.

No bomb was found. There will be school at Warwick Veterans School tomorrow, he said.

WARWICK, RI – Warwick Public Schools Superintendent Phil Thornton alerted parents and the community this morning that, following a suspicious note found at Warwick Veterans Middle School, classes had been canceled for the day.

“Police were here immediately taking charge of the scene,” Thornton said Tuesday morning.

In a statement about the incident, Thornton said the note made a bomb threat. He said the building was evacuated, and Warwick Police are on the scene and currently investigating the note.

Warwick Veterans Middle School students who take the bus to school are being dismissed to their busses from the field area of the building, Thornton said. The remaining students will be evacuated to the Mickey Stevens Ice Rink where parents can pick up the students.
