WARWICK, RI —The RI Hospitality Association (RIHA) recently named Apponaug Brewing Company, in Warwick its first“Brewery of the Year” at the 30th Annual Meeting and Stars of the Industry Awards Ceremony at Twin River Casino Hotel Event Center.

Founded in 2018, by co-owners Tamara McKenney and Kris Waugh, Apponaug Brewing Company features a 100BBL (310 gallon) brewhouse located in the historic Pontiac Mills at 334 Knight Street in Warwick. The brewery sits along the Pawtuxet River in the mill site, which is bordered and accessed by Knight Street. It was among the first tenanted businesses in the steadily redeveloped far end of the mill complex. NYLO Hotel, an early tenant, sits at the other end of Knight Street facing the Warwick Mall.

Offering a wide variety of both traditional and creative styles of beer, the brewery also has a full kitchen to complement its beer offerings, as well as a full selection of craft spirits and wines. The craft brewery offers tacos, flat breads, sliders and appetizers along with a selection of stouts, festbiers, ales and IPAs, marketed along an industrial theme with names including Weathering Steel and Raw Materials.

Outside, during warmer months, brewery aficionados relaxed on wood Adirondack chairs with their dogs.

“Built by two women, Apponaug Brewing is more than just another brewpub,” said Dale Venturini, President and CEO of RHIA. “They are an essential refuge from the daily hustles of home and work. This is a community where you can meet up with good friends or make unexpected ones, all while experiencing the energy of a working brewery.”
