WARWICK, RI —  A reported stabbing was actually a baseball bat assault, Warwick Police discovered after answering a call from 1 Willow Glen Circle Saturday at 5:27 p.m.

Warwick Police charged Anna Pereira, 32, with assault with a dangerous weapon of a man, 48.

When officers arrived at the address, they found Pereira had suffered superficial knife wounds to her arms and leg. Police also interviewed a 48-year-old man in the home, who had suffered a head edema (swelling) and other injuries, the result of a baseball bat assault.

The man refused treatment from Warwick Fire EMS service, which had also been called to the scene. Pereira was transported by Warwick Fire EMS to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of her injuries, then released back into Warwick Police custody.

The Warwick Police investigation of the woman’s injuries and the baseball bat assault of the man determined that Pereira’s injuries were self-inflicted. Police arrested Pereira and charged her with assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

Pereira is being held pending a special arraignment on the charges.
