WPD: Man Apparently Struck, Killed By His Own Car

UPDATE – MARCH 16: Warwick Police have identified the man found injured by his own car March 13 as Gregory McLaughlin, 80,  of West Warwick.

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police report a man died in the parking lot at the Olive Garden restaurant, 31 Universal Blvd., after apparently being struck by his own car at about 8 a.m. Saturday.

Warwick Police were called to the lot shortly after 8 a.m. and found the elderly man, laying unresponsive  in the parking lot. His car, a 2011 Buick, was located a short distance from the man.

The man. who had serious injuries, was transported by the Warwick Fire Department ambulance to Kent County Memorial Hospital, about a mile away, in critical condition.  He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is investigating along with members of the Detective Division.

After an initial investigation, it appears as though the male may have been struck by his own vehicle. However the exact cause of death will be determined by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office. No foul play is suspected, police report.
