Warwick, RI — Voters in Warwick gave Cranston Mayor Allan Fung a narrow win in the city on Nov. 4, according to the early numbers, but it didn’t provide the Republican with a victory over General Treasurer Gina Raimondo.

With all 33 precincts in Warwick reporting, Fung collected 10,890 votes to Raimondo’s 9,995, good for a 37.6-to-34.5 margin for Fung. Moderate candidate Robert Healey took 7,656, or 26.5 percent of the vote.

The Warwick Board of Canvassers reported on Tuesday night that there are 1,306 absentee ballots yet to be counted; Raimondo would need to take more than two-thirds of those to eke out a win in Warwick.

[Statewide, Raimondo took 40 percent of the vote, according to the Rhode Island Board of Elections results website as of 11 p.m. Tuesday.]

Fung’s votes in the city amounted to a bit less than half of the 21,498 that Mayor Scott Avedisian collected in his successful run.

In the lieutenant governor’s race, Cumberland Mayor Dan McKee defeated Republican Catherine Taylor, 49.8 percent to 37.4 percent, in Warwick.

Local voters also gave the edge to Democrat Nellie Gorbea in the secretary of state’s race, 58.4 to 41.3 percent over Republican John Carlevale; incumbent Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin, a Democrat, over Republican challenger Dawson Hodgson by a 54-46 margin; and Democrat Seth Magaziner over Independent Ernest Almonte, 55-44 percent, in the race for state treasurer.

All four of those candidates won their races statewide, as well.
