Several inches of snow have been reported across much of the state, and snowfall and wind speeds have steadily increased. Slippery roads are creating dangerous driving conditions throughout the region.

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Public Schools, Bishop Hendricken and many private schools are cancelled Tuesday and a parking ban as residents prepare under the cloud of a winter storm warning of a possible 10 to 16 inches of snow set to begin after 5 a.m. and last into the evening.

Mayor Scott Avedisian’s office sent a release to local media this afternoon asking residents to stay off the roads Tuesday except in cases of emergency, and apprised citizens of a parking ban that will go into effect at midnight in advance of the storm, remaining in effect until further notice. Cars left on the street will be towed at owner’s expense, according to the Mayor’s office.

Thayer Arena and McDermott Pool will be closed on Tuesday. The Pilgrim Senior Center will be closed, and there will be no Transwick bus service. Warwick Public Schools have canceled classes and all activities.

Trash pickup is also canceled for Tuesday, March 14th and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

The National Weather Service forecast predicts areas of blowing snow between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with a high near 34. The storm will also be windy during that period, with a northeast wind 18 to 23 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon.

The bulk of snowfall is expected before 3 p.m., with the possibility of rain, snow, and sleet likely before 9 p.m., then a chance of snow and sleet between 9 and 10 p.m., then a chance of snow after 10 p.m.

Snow you don’t want lying around the next three days should be cleared immediately, as the temperatures will drop from 27 to 17 degrees Wednesday night, from 30 to 16 degrees Thursday night, then 34 degrees Friday before rising to a high of 40 on Saturday.

For updates and closings, the Mayor’s office advised residents to check the city’s website.
