The Warwick City Council is advertising an RFP (request for proposal) on a project to restore the Conimicut Shoals Lighthouse.

A proposal from the New England Lighthouse Tourism and Restoration Company would restore the landmark as part of a network of coastal attractions.

The Council, which had placed the proposal on their May 12 agenda, postponed the item until September to give the city time to pursue a formal RFP process, inviting other companies to bid on the project, said Susan Baker, press secretary for Mayor Scott Avedisian.

Avedisian has proposed setting up a lease agreement with the company to fix up the property. Nick Korstad, a principal of New England Lighthouse Tourism and Restoration Company, which already owns the Borden Flats Lighthouse in Fall River, wants to lease the lighthouse from the city, offsetting operating and restoration costs through tour ticket sales.

According to rhodeislandlighthousehistory.info, Korstad estimates his company can do the job, handling much of the work themselves, for $100,000.
