WARWICK, RI  — Officer Brian Murray was called to Warwick Mall at 400 Bald Hill Road Oct. 29 at 12:21 p.m. for a report of an assault, arresting a Cranston man on an assault charge who was later banned from premises.

Murray arrived in the mall’s food court, where mall security had a man,  Charles Sczuroski, 33, of 30 Howard Ave., Cranston, in custody. Upon speaking with witnesses, Murray learned that Sczuroski had pushed the mall’s food court manager and pushed a chair at him.

The manager told Murray that he had found a group of men playing cards in the food court, Sczuroski among them. The manager told them they had to stop their game, since playing cards is against the mall’s rules.

Sczuroski stood and pushed a chair at the manager, according to one witness, then charged at him, pushing the manager, according to both the manager’s and the witness’s accounts.

Murray arrested Sczuroski and transported him to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where he was charged with one count of simple assault. Sczuroski was also instructed that he had been banned from the mall for a year.
