WARWICK, RI — In Warwick City Park, a road bears the name of Bob Leavitt, one of the many ways the heavy equipment operator left his mark on the city.

Leavitt, 80, died Sept. 19, 2024, surrounded by his daughters. He was the husband of the late Ann (Muto) Leavitt, who he met when he was six years old, for 57 years.

The lifelong Warwick resident worked for the City of Warwick for 34 years as a foreman/heavy equipment operator building roads, parks, ball fields, and the bike path.

Bob Leavitt Trail in Buttonwoods City Park, one of the streets he helped build, was named after him in 2022.

“The city has lost a great guy that we all loved, Bob Leavitt,” Mayor Frank Picozzi remarked on his Facebook page Monday, calling Leavitt a ‘legend.’

“He was a very talented operator and played a vital role in many city construction projects including the site work for the pool, skating rinks, ballparks and much, much more.

Bob loved his family and the guys that he worked with and trained. He loved to show the photo albums he kept over the years of all the projects that he had a hand in, and all of the “kids” that he trained, almost all of them are retired now. Rest in peace Bob, we all love you and you made your mark in this city,” Picozzi wrote.
City flags will fly at half staff through his interment.
