BOSTON —The New England Revolution honored United States Army Sgt. Bobby Ortiz, a Detail Recruiter with the New England Recruiting Battalion RI Company in Warwick,  as the Hero of the Match at the team’s final home game of the season Sunday, Oct. 15.

The honor was awarded during The New England Revolution’s game against New York City FC Tuesday.

Ortiz was recognized during a pregame ceremony for serving as a member of the United States Army for over a decade through many combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sergeant Ortiz has also received several awards including the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. He had a sideline view of the Revs pregame warmups and enjoyed the game from the Putnam Club.

The Revs’ Hero of the Match program honors a local first responder, member of the armed forces or individual making a difference in the community at each home game during the 2017 season.
