Vietnam Vet Reflects on, Photographs ‘Boots on the Ground’ at Roger Williams Park
Warwick, RI — Local photog and veteran Lincoln Smith’s travels took him to Roger Williams Park this weekend, where Mayor Scott Avedisian joined local and state officials honoring those lost in service during the Boots on the Ground Memorial Day observance Saturday.
“I had the privilege too visit the Boots on the Ground Memorial at Roger Williams Park this Weekend. Being a Vietnam Vet seeing this Memorial was very emotional, touching and moving as I spent time photographing it. Â There was a boot and a flag for every service person who has lost their life since 911 in the fight against terrorism,” Smith wrote.
Smith said his photo essay focused on 6,844 boots in the exhibit, put together by Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, which has served RI Vets since 1993.
