WARWICK, R.I. — On Saturday, June 10, Warwick celebrated “The First Blow for Freedom,” the 1772 burning of the HMS Gaspee by a rebellious band of Rhode Islanders, commemorated every year with Gaspee Day events, including the Gaspee Day Parade.
The parade draws scores of people annually along the parade route along Narragansett Parkway into Pawtuxet Village, to the occasional repeats of muskets along the route and cannon fire from Pawtuxet bridge. The event itself lasts a few hours; here are about a minute’s worth of highlights from the event.
