Upcoming Warwick Events: Oct. 9 through 16

Warwick, RI — An informative lecture series, original jazz, art at WMOA, and an upcoming Halloween benefit are on this week’s list of events in Warwick.

Here’s what’s on the schedule through Oct 16.

Can’t Miss:

Civil War Series at Warwick Public Library

Dr. Stanley Carpenter, Professor of Strategy and Policy at the U.S. Naval War College, wraps up his series of lectures on the Civil War at the central branch of Warwick Public Library on Tuesday night, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.

Register online at warwicklibrary.org or call (401) 739-5440, x4 to ensure a spot for the last of these well-attended seminars.

The theme for the concluding lecture is “1864-65: War is Hell.”

Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014:

“It’s All in the Details” photo exhibit, 10 a.m.

Warwick Public Library opens a new exhibit showcasing the work of local shutterbugs this week. There’s also a reception scheduled for Oct. 19. Through Oct. 28. Visit warwicklibrary.org or call (401) 739-5440 for more info.

28th Annual Rhode Island Open Juried Exhibit at WMOA, 10 a.m.

Warwick Museum of Art welcomes Ernest Jolicoeur, director of the Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery at Salve Regina University, to review and rate original works by local artists as part of a new exhibit.

The Museum is open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Through Oct. 25.

My Fair Lady at OST, 2 p.m.

“Fa” may be a long, long way to run — but it doesn’t take that long to find Ocean State Theatre [just off Main Avenue on Jefferson Boulevard] to catch My Fair Lady.

Be sure to check out Rob Borkowski’s review of the classic stage show.

Performances continue Thursday at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Wednesdays through Sundays until Oct. 19. Tix are $39/$49/$54.

Saturday, Oct. 11:

Jazz at the Boat House, 6 p.m.

Terri Giviens hosts this musical evening at the 2 East View St., featuring Leland Baker, Paul DiMartino, Chris Gagnon, Matt Passeroni & Tom White. Tickets are just $5.

Mark your calendars:

The great folks over at the Warwick Animal Shelter are getting ready for the 11th Annual Howloween bash, scheduled for Oct. 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 475 Sandy Lane, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and all proceeds benefit the shelter animals.
