Warwick, RI — Front-running Republican presidential nominee candidate Donald Trump will rally in Warwick Monday afternoon at Crowne Plaza Hotel at 801 Greenwich Ave.
Trump’s campaign announced the visit on its website Sunday, linking to registration options for members of the public and the press. The candidate cancelled an earlier tentatively scheduled visit to the state April 13, according to an Associated Press report. At the time, Warwick Rep. Joe Trillo, the campaign chair for Trump in RI, told NECN the trip was cancelled due to security concerns.
Trump also cancelled a trip to Chicago citing security concerns after a rally in Cleveland was interrupted by protesters.
Trillo, a real estate investor, is the minority whip in the Rhode Island General Assembly and host of the statewide cable TV show “Trillo Talks.”
Trillo introduced e-verify legislation and supported the prohibition of illegal immigrants obtaining drivers licenses. He previously served as Republican National Committeeman for the state.
“It is my pleasure to have Joe serve as our Honorary Chairman in the great state of Rhode Island. Securing our border and solving the issue of illegal immigration has become a cornerstone of my campaign and I have great respect for Joe’s passion with regard to solving this problem. With the help of Joe and so many other supporters in Rhode Island, we will Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote in a statement announcing Trillo’s role as his RI campaign chairman in January.
