WARWICK, RI — Officer Edmund Pierce and fellow officers were called to Vernon Street July 24 at 4:13 a.m. for a report of three males using a U-Haul van for a motorcycle theft, arresting three suspects.

As Pierce was driving to the address, he spotted a U-Haul van make a right onto Warwick Avenue from Merle Street. He pulled behind it and saw there were three motorcycles visible through the van door window, according to the officer’s report. He pulled the van over.

He spoke with the driver, James Senat, 18, of 87 Leyden Park Road, Brockton, MA and asked where he was headed. Senat stated he was picking up motorcycles to go off-roading with his friends. He didn’t know who owned the bikes or the address he’d taken them from, according to the report. Pierce asked Senat to get out to speak with him privately.

As they walked away from the U-Haul, Senat said to Pierce, “You know what this is.” Pierce asked if he meant they had stolen the bikes, to which he replied, “Yeah,” according to the report.

The three had stolen a 2022 Kawasaki, $3,000, a 20201 Yamaha, $6,500 and a 2022 Honda, $3,500.

Pierce arrested and handcuffed Senat and put him in the rear of a cruiser. He also arrested Jaysin Selter, 19, of 124 Laurenston St., Brockton, MA, also charging him with larceny and conspiracy. Officers also arrested a third male, a juvenile.

Later, the reporting party was driven to the scene to confirm the detained trio were the men he had seen, during a stand-up lineup.

At the station, Pierce charged Senat and Selter with Larceny over $10K, a felony, and also with conspiracy.

A witness showed Pierce and the other officers the open gate and cut locks that had allowed the three entry to the  yard and shed where the dirt bikes had been kept.
