Before Pepe’s Pizza opens its 10th location at 21 Universal Blvd., it’s going to need the family restaurant chain’s iconic coal-fired pizza oven, which Gary Bimonte, owner of Frank Pepe’s Pizza and grandson of the epononymous pizzeria’s founder, fired up on Monday.
When Warwick businessman Jim Bosco opened his third incarnation of Palazzo’s Pizza in October opposite Airport Plaza, the place quickly took off even before the “Palazzo’s” sign could be installed.
Mike & Gel’s Pizza opened Saturday at 3 p.m. at the former Palazzo’s Pizza spot, 3003 West Shore Road, with a new sign, new interior, kitchen and menu, and at least one regular customer is happy with the change.
