WARWICK, RI — Many public schools are delayed Wednesday, and some preschools and services are also delayed or cancelled, but Warwick was not among them as of 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
By late afternoon Tuesday, 16 motor vehicle crashes were reported across the state as a result of today’s storm, according to the RI State Police.
The crashes included a tractor-trailer truck that jackknifed on I-95 in West Greenwich. No injuries were reported, but one lane of I-95 South was closed while a heavy duty wrecker assisted the tractor-trailer truck near Exit 6 at about 3:30 p.m.
Elsewhere in the state, four motorists needed assistance when their cars went off the road, according to RI State Police, and police also aided the drivers of seven disabled vehicles.
Flooding has been reported in several locations including: Interstate 95 South at Exit 6; Interstate 95 South at Park Avenue Exit; and the ramp to Exit 2 from Interstate 295 South. State Police were working with the Department of Transportation to clear these problems as the snowstorm began turning to rain.
Colonel Ann Assumpico, Superintendent of State Police and Director of Public Safety, urged motorists to continue to avoid the roads, which are expected to ice over as temperatures drop overnight.
In Warwick, a parking ban remains in effect until further notice. Trash and Recycling pickup is delayed one day for the rest of the week.
