WARWICK, RI —Peter K. McMichael, retired Providence Fire Department fire marshal, is the new Warwick Fire Chief, following the Board of Public Safety’s approval of Mayor Solomon’s appointment of him to the job Tuesday night.
The Board met at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Warwick Police Headquarters, and had made its recommendation within about 15 minutes. Solomon, McMichael, and other members of the Warwick Fire Department exited the meeting room left the building with only a brief pause for a photo and did not linger for questions.
According to his LinkeIn profile, McMichael has served as a fire marshal with the Providence Fire Department for 30 years, starting in 1988. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and has studied fire science and firefighting at Providence College.
McMichael succeeds acting chief Marcel Fontenault, who has served since last May when former Mayor Scott Avedisian resigned to become the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Transit Authority and, James McLaughlin retired as chief.
